Chondromalacia is the most frequent knee problem that you will see in your practice. The back of the kneecap is no longer smooth because of imbalance of the quadriceps. The vastus lateralis pulls on the patella harder than the vastus medialis causing the patella to ride outside of its comfortable position. It doesn’t take long for the posterior side to get irritated. Your client will tell you that it hurts going up and down stairs. Only relax and lengthen the vastus lateralis not all the quadriceps. They should also strengthen the vastus medialis. It won’t happen in one treatment but over time those knees will feel so much.
